In September of 2005, Camp Fire was awarded a $182,200 grant from the Virginia Piper Charitable Trust to fund after-school programs for children in three Valley elementary schools. As of Spring 2007, Camp Fire was the largest non-profit provider of academic tutoring in Arizona. In January 2008, Camp Fire was awarded the largest operating grant in its history from a private foundation that will ensure our tutoring programs will continue despite the funding shortfalls from the Department of Education. This grant of $378,000 will assist over 300 children in their preparation for the state-mandated achievement tests. Camp Fire's highly qualified tutors target the individual student's needs, challenging our students not only to advance but to excel. We will help your child face obstacles head on, from assessment and personalized learning programs to professional development and support.
Camp Fire currently operates in underperforming schools in south central Phoenix with scores of state-approved tutors. Check out our Camp Fire School Smart? brochure (english | spanish) for information on the elementary education tutoring and to learn more about our exciting educational initiatives.
Last February, Camp Fire-Arizona was awarded the largest operating grant in its history for our in-school tutoring programs. This grant resulted in academic improvements for hundreds of children, but many more students remain in need of tutoring and they need your help.
